What's included
We bring a stud finder, levels, a laser, drill bits for wood, drywall and masonry, and a range of anchors. You provide the pieces and any hardware that came with them. If the included hardware is weak, we tell you and swap it for something better.
- Framed art, canvases and prints, single pieces or groups
- Gallery walls laid out on the floor or with paper templates first
- Floating shelves, bracket shelves and picture ledges
- Heavy mirrors over vanities, dressers, consoles and entry tables
- Key racks, coat hooks and small wall cabinets
- Patching and touching up old nail holes when a piece moves
Common South Florida problems
Many South Florida exterior walls are concrete block with drywall on furring strips. A nail or a plastic anchor in that drywall may hold a light frame, but not a heavy mirror or a loaded shelf. On those walls we drill into the block and use masonry anchors. On interior walls we look for studs or use anchors rated for the weight.
Some older homes have plaster walls, which crack if you drive a nail carelessly. We drill a clean pilot hole and use anchors meant for plaster.
Floating shelves are the job most likely to sag. The hidden bracket needs solid backing, and a long shelf filled with books puts real weight on it. We ask what you plan to put on the shelf before we choose how to mount it.
Condo buildings often limit drilling to certain hours, and some need a certificate of insurance or vendor registration on file before we arrive. Let us know your building rules and we will schedule around them.
How a visit works
Send us photos of the pieces and the walls, plus rough sizes and weights if you know them. We will tell you what fits in the starting price and whether anything needs a second person.
When we arrive, we walk the rooms with you and agree on placement. For art, we usually aim for the center of a piece near eye level and adjust for furniture below it. For gallery walls, we lay the arrangement out first, mark it on the wall and keep the spacing even.
Then we hang, level and check each piece. Before we leave, we vacuum the drill dust and show you which anchors went where, in case you want to rearrange later.
What affects the price
The visit covers the first hour and up to 5 standard pieces. From there, the main things that change the total are the number of pieces, their weight and the wall type.
- Each additional piece of art: $25
- Floating shelf: starting at $79
- Heavy mirror, 50 pounds or more: starting at $149
- Time beyond the first hour: $85 per hour, billed in half-hour steps
- Anchors, brackets or hardware we supply: at cost plus 20 percent
- Very large or awkward mirrors that need two people
Tips before we arrive
Clear the furniture away from the walls we are working on, or let us know if you want help moving it. Have the pieces unwrapped and in the rooms they are going to. If a mirror or shelf came with a mounting template, keep it, since it saves time on placement.
Questions we get about shelves, mirrors and art hanging
How do you hang a heavy mirror on a concrete wall?
We drill through the drywall into the block with a masonry bit and use anchors rated for the mirror's weight, often with a French cleat or a mirror bracket. We do not rely on the furring strips or the drywall alone.
How high should art be hung?
A common rule is to put the center of the piece near eye level, then adjust so it relates to the sofa or console below it. We hold the piece up and let you see it before we drill.
How much weight can a floating shelf hold?
It depends on the shelf, its bracket and what it is anchored into. A shelf into studs or block holds much more than one in drywall anchors. Tell us what you plan to put on it and we will mount it for that load.
Can you hang things in my condo?
Yes. We can provide a certificate of insurance and work within your building's set hours. Many condo walls are concrete, which we drill with masonry bits and anchors.
Will you patch the old holes when I move my art?
Yes. We fill and smooth small nail and anchor holes as part of the visit. Matching your exact paint color depends on having leftover paint on hand. In homes built before 1978, we check the painted surface for lead before sanding, and refer the patching to an EPA lead-safe certified firm if it tests positive.
Can you hang a gallery wall?
Yes. We lay the pieces out on the floor or tape paper templates to the wall first so you can see the arrangement, then hang each frame with even spacing. Most gallery walls fit within one visit.
Where we do this most
We do shelves, mirrors and art hanging across Palm Beach and Broward. These are some of the cities where we get asked for it most.
