Common South Florida problems
Salt air and humidity are hard on door hardware. Near the coast and the Intracoastal, cheap finishes pit and keyed cylinders get stiff. We will suggest finishes that hold up better when you are shopping.
Smart locks fail most often because the bolt rubs. When a door has shifted with summer humidity, the motor strains, eats batteries and jams. We align the strike and the door so the bolt throws freely before we call the job done.
Snowbirds come back to dead batteries. We can swap them at your arrival visit and show you the backup key or power option on your model.
Many condo buildings have rules about entry door hardware, and some entry doors are fire rated. Check with your association before you buy a new lock, and we will work within the rules.
How a visit works
Text us a photo of the door edge with the latch and the existing lock, and a link to the lock you want. We confirm it fits before the visit.
Our tech removes the old hardware, installs the new lock, checks the bolt with the door shut, then sets up the app and codes with you. For rentals, we swap every keyed lock on the unit so old keys stop working, and we hand the new keys to you or your property manager.
We take the old hardware away unless you want to keep it, and we leave the manuals and spare keys in one place.
What affects the price
Most single lock or lever jobs fit inside the minimum visit. Multiple doors and fit problems add time.
- One smart or keypad deadbolt on a standard door: part of the $149 minimum visit, which includes the first hour
- Additional locks, levers and hinges the same visit: $85 per hour past the first hour
- Doors that need the strike or door adjusted for the bolt to throw add time
- Hardware we buy for you is billed at cost plus 20%
- Rental turnovers with several keyed locks are quoted per unit
Tips before you buy a lock
Measure the door thickness and note whether it has a deadbolt above the knob already. If you want app control while you are up north, check whether the lock needs a separate hub or works over your home Wi-Fi. Buy the same finish for every door so the hardware matches.
What we don't do
We do not do locksmith work: no lockouts, no picking or re-pinning cylinders, no master key systems, safes or car keys. We change locks by installing new hardware.
We do not install anything hardwired, including wired video doorbells, electric strikes or access control panels. Those go to an electrician. We also do not drill new lock holes in metal or fire-rated doors.
Questions we get about smart locks and door hardware
How much does it cost to install a smart lock?
Installing and setting up one battery smart or keypad deadbolt on a standard door fits our $149 minimum visit, which includes the first hour. Extra locks the same visit are $85 per hour past the first hour.
Will a smart lock fit my door?
Most battery smart deadbolts fit the standard holes in a residential door. Send us a photo of the door edge and the lock you want, and we will confirm before you buy.
Do you install video doorbells?
Only battery models that need no wiring. Hardwired doorbells connect to your home's wiring, so we refer those to an electrician.
Can you change the locks between tenants?
Yes. We install new keyed hardware on every lock in the unit so the old keys stop working, and hand the new keys to you or your manager. We do not re-pin existing cylinders.
Why does my smart lock keep jamming?
Usually the bolt is rubbing on the strike because the door shifted. That strains the motor and drains batteries. Adjusting the strike or the door hinges often fixes it.
Can I give a code to my cleaner or home watch company?
Yes, most keypad and smart locks let you set separate codes for different people and delete them later. We set them up with you during the visit and show you how to change them.
Where we do this most
We do smart locks and door hardware across Palm Beach and Broward. These are some of the cities where we get asked for it most.
