Kitchen cabinet installation

We install kitchen cabinets for homeowners, landlords and property managers from Jupiter to Fort Lauderdale. That covers stock cabinets, RTA flat-pack boxes from the big box stores and semi-custom lines, uppers and lowers, set level and fastened so they stay put.

We also hang laundry room and garage cabinets, take out old cabinets, and do the finish work: fillers, toe kicks, crown and hardware. The sink, dishwasher and anything electrical get reconnected by a plumber or electrician, and we coordinate timing with them so your kitchen is out of service for as short a time as possible.

What's included

Every cabinet goes in level and plumb, even when the floor and walls are not. We find the high point of the floor, mark a level line around the room, then set the boxes to that line and shim underneath and behind where needed.

On interior walls we screw into studs. Exterior walls in most South Florida homes are drywall on furring strips over concrete block, so we drive masonry anchors into the block itself. Garage walls are often bare block, and we anchor straight into it.

  • Assembling RTA flat-pack cabinets on site
  • Uppers and lowers, set level, shimmed and screwed together at the face frames or sides
  • Leveling base cabinets over uneven slab floors
  • Fillers and scribing against walls that are out of square
  • Toe kicks, plus crown molding on top of the uppers
  • Knobs and pulls, drilled with a jig so they line up
  • Removing old cabinets
  • Setting a prefabricated laminate countertop
  • Laundry room and garage cabinets

Common South Florida problems

Slab floors are rarely flat. In an older kitchen the floor can drop a fair amount from one corner to the other, and if the base cabinets simply follow it, the countertop and doors end up crooked too. Shimming to a level line fixes that before anything is fastened.

Walls fool people. On an exterior block wall, the furring strips behind the drywall are thin wood and should not carry a loaded upper cabinet by themselves, so we go through to the block. When old cabinets come down, we also look at how they were hung and what the wall behind them looks like.

Humidity and water matter. Particleboard RTA boxes swell when they get wet, so we keep them off a damp garage slab during assembly, and we point out any spot under the old sink where a leak has already damaged the cabinet floor or wall.

In homes built before 1978, we check painted surfaces for lead before we cut or remove painted trim or wall around old cabinets. If it tests positive, we refer that part of the job to an EPA lead-safe certified firm.

How a visit works

Text photos of the space to (561) 816-5974, along with your cabinet list or layout sheet if you have one. We price the job from the number of boxes, plus any removal, hardware, crown or countertop setting.

On install day our tech checks the delivery against the order first. A missing or damaged box is better found before the old kitchen comes out.

Then we remove the old cabinets if needed, mark the level line and the stud or block locations, and set the uppers before the lowers so we are not leaning over finished base cabinets. We clean up, adjust the doors and drawers, and walk you through what the plumber or electrician still needs to finish.

If your HOA or condo building requires vendor registration, a certificate of insurance or set work hours, tell us when you book so the paperwork is done before install day.

What affects the price

Most of the price is the box count, at $95 per cabinet box with a $599 job minimum. Six boxes or fewer, like a laundry room run or a few garage cabinets, comes in at the minimum.

Florida's handyman exemption covers jobs under $2,500, so we take laundry rooms, garage cabinets, partial kitchens and cabinet swaps. A full kitchen that goes over that line gets referred to a licensed contractor.

  • Removing old cabinets, from $199
  • Knobs and pulls, $8 to $14 per piece
  • RTA assembly time, which depends on the brand and box count
  • Crown molding, extra fillers and scribing
  • Very uneven floors or walls that take more shimming
  • Setting a prefabricated laminate countertop
  • Materials: cabinets you supply, or cabinets and parts we buy at cost plus 20%

What we don't do

We don't do plumbing, electrical or gas work. The sink, faucet, dishwasher and disposal get hooked up by a plumber, and under-cabinet lights go to an electrician; we can line up our schedule with theirs. We don't fabricate countertops or move walls, and for anything that needs a permit, we'll point you to a licensed contractor.

Questions we get about kitchen cabinet installation

Do you assemble RTA cabinets from big box stores?

Yes. Flat-pack RTA cabinets are common, and we assemble them on site before installing them. Assembly takes real time, so tell us up front that your cabinets are RTA so it is in the quote.

How long does it take to install kitchen cabinets?

A laundry room or a few garage cabinets is usually one visit. A full kitchen takes longer, especially with RTA assembly, and if the whole job would go over the $2,500 handyman limit we'll point you to a licensed contractor.

Do I need a plumber to reconnect the sink after new cabinets go in?

Yes. We don't disconnect or reconnect plumbing, gas or electrical. Shut-off and hookup of the sink, faucet, dishwasher and disposal go to a plumber, and lights go to an electrician. We'll coordinate timing so the gap is short.

Can cabinets be hung on a concrete block wall?

Yes. Most exterior walls here are block with drywall over furring strips. We fasten through the drywall into the block with masonry anchors instead of relying on the furring strips.

Will you remove my old cabinets?

Yes, removal starts at $199. Once they are out we can see the wall and floor behind them. If the drywall needs patching before the new cabinets go up, we can handle that as a drywall repair.
