What's included
We pull the old trim carefully, check the wall behind it, and install new pieces with tight joints. Inside corners on baseboard and crown are coped, not just mitered, so they stay closed as the house moves with heat and humidity. Outside corners get glued miters.
After install, we set the nails, fill the holes, caulk the top edge and joints, and paint if you want it painted. We clean up the dust and haul away the old trim.
- Baseboard install and replacement
- Quarter round or shoe molding after new flooring
- Door and window casing
- Crown molding in bedrooms, living rooms and dining rooms
- Matching existing profiles when a stock profile is close
- Caulk, fill and paint
MDF or PVC in humid rooms
Primed MDF is smooth, paints well and costs less, and it is fine in bedrooms and living areas. Its weak spot is water. MDF that gets wet from mopping, a shower splash or a small leak swells and does not shrink back.
In bathrooms, laundry rooms and next to exterior doors and sliders, we suggest PVC trim, which does not absorb water. PVC costs more per foot, and we price it on the quote.
Common South Florida problems
Swollen baseboard is the most common call. It shows up next to tubs, toilets, washers and sliders, anywhere water sits on the floor. We replace the damaged run and suggest PVC there so it does not happen again.
Tile and plank floors are everywhere here, and when floors get replaced, the old baseboard often sits too high or leaves a gap. Quarter round covers that gap, or we pull the baseboard and reset it to sit on the new floor.
Exterior walls in many homes are concrete block with drywall on furring strips. There is not always solid wood behind the drywall where trim lands, so we use construction adhesive along with nails to keep pieces tight.
Caulk lines crack and yellow with time, and gaps open at corners in rooms that get strong sun. Sometimes fresh caulk and paint is all the trim needs, and we will say so.
Older homes and lead paint
In homes built before 1978, we check painted trim for lead before we remove, cut or sand it. If a test is positive, we refer that part of the job to an EPA lead-safe certified firm.
How a visit works
Text photos of the rooms and rough wall lengths to (561) 816-5974. Tell us if the floors are new or about to go in, since trim goes in after flooring.
Our tech confirms the profile, material and paint color with you, then measures and picks up material. On install day we set up the saw outside or in the garage when we can, to keep dust out of the house.
Condo buildings and HOAs often limit work hours and noisy tools. Tell us the rules and we will plan the saw work around them.
What affects the price
Baseboard and trim installs start at $8 per linear foot with primed MDF, installed, caulked and filled, with a $299 minimum. Crown molding takes more time than baseboard because of the angles and ladder work, so we quote it after seeing the room.
- Material: primed MDF, PVC or paint-grade wood
- Profile height and how many corners the room has
- Removing and hauling away old trim
- Uneven walls or floors that need scribing
- Painting included or left for you
- Ceiling height for crown molding
Tips before we arrive
Clear a path about two feet out from the walls we are trimming, and take down anything hanging low on them. If you have leftover paint from the existing trim, leave the can out so we can match the color and sheen. If new floors are going in, schedule us after the installer finishes, not before.
What we don't do
If an outlet or switch sits where new trim needs to go, moving it is electrical work, and we'll point you to a licensed contractor. We work around boxes as they are.
Questions we get about trim, baseboard and crown molding
How much does it cost to install baseboards?
Our starting price is $8 per linear foot for primed MDF, installed, caulked and filled, with a $299 minimum. PVC, tall profiles, lots of corners and painting change the price.
Should I use MDF or PVC baseboard in a bathroom?
PVC. It does not absorb water, so it will not swell from mopping or shower splash. MDF is fine in dry rooms.
Do I need quarter round with new vinyl plank or laminate?
Often, yes. Floating floors need a gap at the walls so they can expand, and quarter round or a reset baseboard covers it.
What is a coped corner?
An inside corner where one piece is cut to the shape of the other, instead of two 45-degree cuts meeting. Coped corners stay closed better as the house moves through the seasons.
Can you match my existing baseboard?
If it is a stock profile, usually. Older or custom profiles may not be sold anymore, so we will show you the closest option or suggest replacing the whole room so it matches.
